Modern Russia stands out as a high income, industrialised and educated country with non-democratic government, very high number of billionaires and very high level of corruption. In this talk I discuss the political economy of Russia’s governance system explaining the interactions between oligarchic elite and personalistic non-democratic regime, its origins and implications for Russia’s economic performance and its citizens.
